FYI Those interested in the 1+ One

Those of you who have been following me for a while know that I have been using the Oppo 1+ One for the last few months and I still have yet to find a phone that performs as well as this one in terms of battery life, processing power, and usability. Although it is a little big in the pocket and in the hand, I am still reluctant to change phones as I have in the past.

The 1+ One will be having a “no-invite required” sale tomorrow, Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the following link:

Those of you who have been anxiously waiting on an invite can hop over to that link tomorrow at 12AM PST to get your hands on this flagship killer of a phone!

Never Settle.

Re: The Scarcity of Posts and Future Updates

Hi all,

I’m sure you’ve all been wondering for my lack of posts the last few weeks and the reason is that coming up on this holiday week, I had a higher than normal stress level due to school, exams, and a personal matter. However, now that things have settled and I have time to post, it is with great pleasure that I can recommend quite a few contest that I have happened upon through my personal research and/or browsing.

This is the time of awesome deals (black Friday) and with sales tactics becoming more and more aggressive, many online retailers have already started to offer the deals that we would have to wait until Friday to take advantage of turning this shopping season into what is most easily called “Black (Shopping) Week” where we get so many more chances to stock up on gifts. At the bottom of this post will be a list of contests I think are worth your time entering (requires facebook) and that I’ve personally entered so I know that they won’t spam you. Keep in mind that I’m not getting any form of compensation for recommending these giveaways, I’m just spreading the word as I feel that little effort involved is totally worth throwing your name in the pot for a chance to win!

Hopefully, I’ll be able to start updating this blog on a more regular/scheduled basis in the near future, however we will have to see as there is another exam season coming up before Christmas break. Feel free to contact me if you guys have any suggestions on any topics or future content I should look into.

As promised earlier, here are the contest links:

“Double Nexus” Giveaway:

“Any Phone” Giveaway:

“Dropbox” Giveaway:

The only thing I get out of recommending these contests are a referral bonus entry, however, if you’d like a direct link, just delete/remove everything from “?gid=” on in the above links.

Good luck and stay techy y’all,

Beware of the POODLE SSL 3.0 Vulnerability

This post may be a little bit late, however, I feel it pertinent to inform you all of a vulnerability that was discovered about year ago. To protect yourselves, it would be best to disable SSL 3.0 which is a technology that is nearly 18 years old. More info can be found here:

Instructions on how to disable SSL 3.0 is listed below:

Current Firefox no longer have a user interface setting to disable TLS or SSL3, but you can make the change on the about:config page. Future Firefox versions will support higher TLS versions (1.1 and 1.2) and both SSL3 and TLS 1.0 are enabled by default.
You can set the security.tls.version.min and security.tls.version.max prefs to 0 to disable TLS (0 means SSL3)

See also:

0 means SSL 3.0, 1 means TLS 1.0, 2 means TLS 1.1, etc.

In Advanced setting, Network>Change Proxy Settings, Advanced tab, uncheck “Use SSL 3.0”. Default is unchecked.

IE 9.

Internet option, advanced tab, uncheck use SSL 3.0

Remain protected,

The 1+ One

As many of you who know me on a personal level, I’ve been admiring and coveting the “1+ One” pretty much since it was announced:

What most of you don’t know is that I actually received an invite to purchase one on 10/06/2014. I decided to keep my purchase and award of the opportunity to purchase the one a secret because I knew that once I received it, I would either love the phone, or despise it due to the size and form factor. Therefore, I didn’t want to pass judgment before actually getting hands onto it.

The design has a ton of wow factor such as the basic design aspects that were created from an aggregate of what seemed like the most popular features requested by the cyanogen community forum members. It has been rightfully dubbed, and even branded as the “cyanogen” phone. When you take a look at the unboxing and glamour shots that I have taken, you will all see what I mean. I actually received the phone on 10/10/2014.

If there is enough demand, I will consider creating a more detailed and in-depth analysis of the phone as a daily driver after a week or two using it consistently. It is safe to say that I intend on never buying another phone again at this particular moment.

I would’ve posted about it then, but I was actually participating in an awesome “NON-hackathon” hosted and sponsored by the AutoTech Alliance of Silicon Valley. I will be back in a few days to write more about the unique experience there and the completely different attitudes in what a “hackathon” is to myself, and those like me, on the technology side of the table. In contrast, most auto manufactuers who aren’t as well versed in technology really don’t have an opinion of what a hackathon is, other than the misconception of what a “hacker” is. (Again, I’l go more in depth on this topic in it’s own post.

However, I need to send a few days to myself in order to recuperate from the lack of sleep and ingestion of tons of junk food in order to meet a deadline to create a product concept with a 3minute pitch with who are essentially strangers all within a 24-hour period.

Below, you will find a poll. What would you prefer to see? An in depth review my shiney new toy/phone, or an overview of my experience at a non-traditional hackathon hosted and paid for (although indirectly) by SV automotive departments.

So much awesomeness
